Sometime we need to fail, to know how to succeedd
We are often our own worst enemies. When others do something wrong, we try to understand. We forgive them, think about the hard life they have lived. How they have always tried their best, even after tragic events. We want to hug them, make them feel better. Our empathic hearts reach out. So why can’t we be as kind to ourselves as to others?
We need to remember that failing is normal , that we can’t be too hard on ourselves. After all, sometimes we need to fail, to know how to succeed.

Very true. I had the chance to listen to and validate two separate acquaintances struggling with suicidal thoughts and found myself urging them to be kind to themselves once the immediate crisis of despair had passed.
They each told me their parents didn’t love them enough to nurture them so what good would kindness to themselves do?
They are both kind and empathic people, who would never treat others as harshly as they were mentally flagellating themselves.
